Announcing our new Controlled Environment Agriculture experience!
A lot has happened here at Growers Supply since our last blog post. For one thing, a new year is now upon us, and in the transition from 2015 to 2016, we took a deep dive into our Controlled Environment Agriculture schools with one major question in mind, “How can we improve the overall CEA learning experience for our guests?”
We held a seemingly countless number of meetings on the subject, during which we even re-considered old ideas that had previously been dismissed. What we ultimately discovered through these meetings was quite simple: our CEA School didn’t require a major overhaul, it simply needed a breath of fresh air to help take it to the next level. It was after this discovery that we elected to re-brand our CEA School, and we are now proud to announce the new name, logo and offerings that have developed from our efforts.
With that said, we are excited to announce that we have completed our re-branding efforts and are happy to introduce our new name: CEA Hands-On Workshop at Growers Supply’s CEA Learning Center.
What has changed?
Aside from the name, our CEA Hands-On Workshop now offers more in depth information on specific topics that our customers have requested. As part of our re-branding efforts, we will also begin hosting a series of one-day workshops featuring presentations by guest speakers who are regarded as leading experts within their field. These new one-day courses will be on a singular topic, enabling attendees to gain in depth information on the most important topics within controlled environment agriculture. With new workshop offerings and a fresh focus on our overall content, we will also be connecting with more industry experts, allowing industry leaders to share their unique ideas with a highly qualified audience. We will post more on our one-day courses, including topic coverage, dates and locations in the following weeks.
We have also updated the presentations, literature and workbook content for our workshops. Our goal is to offer more relevant and relatable information that customers can reference once they have returned to their growing operation. Our handouts now include tips and advice on commonly sought after subjects, product guides and brochures, customer testimonials and more, allowing customers to find all of their information in one convenient location.
CEA Learning Center East
Still located at our company headquarters in South Windsor, Connecticut, CEA Learning Center East includes three state-of-the-art hydroponic grow rooms, which we have designed and built within former warehousing space. These grow rooms include two 30’ wide by 72’ long rooms and one 20’ wide by 30’ long room. One of our 30’ wide by 72’ long grow rooms is dedicated to the hydroponic production of flowering and fruiting crops, such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, while the other is used for hydroponic lettuce and microgreen production. During our workshop, the hands-on learning sessions take place in one of these two grow rooms, so attendees become quite familiar with them during their time here. Our final grow room is the 20’ wide by 30’ long space, which houses our FodderPro Feed Systems. This room features one of our FodderPro 3.0 Commercial Feed Modules along with one of our Micro FodderPro 2.0 Feed Systems. This room is open to any of our attendees interested in learning more about hydroponic fodder production.
CEA Learning Center West
Located at our manufacturing and distribution facility in Dyersville, Iowa, CEA Learning Center West features two high-tech greenhouses used for the hands-on learning sessions at our workshops. The first greenhouse measures 80’ wide by 50’ long and is dedicated to hydroponic and aquaponic crop production. This demonstration area features a variety of systems, including float beds, NFT table systems, vertical NFT systems and dutch bucket systems. The second greenhouse measures 35’ wide by 48’ long and is designed to mimic high-tunnel production, featuring year-round, in-ground crop production. Our CEA Learning Center West also features a number of our ClearSpan Fabric Structures, including our manufacturing facility, which is housed inside one of our own 100’ wide by 780’ long ClearSpan structures. CEA Learning Center West also features two livestock housing facilities, one for our fodder fed pigs and the other for our fodder fed cattle.
