The Life and Times of Lucy Lettuce – Part 1
What better way to get to know how crops grow than by watching one up close and personal?
In this blog, I will be tracking the life and times of one seed in our hydroponic test facility.
Meet Lucy Simpson Elite. She and five hundred of her friends began their lives on January 27, 2012.
She was lucky enough to get the corner lot on the block (or rockwool mini cube as it happens to be). To get Lucy off on the right foot (I mean root), we create a spa-like atmosphere for her with a clear humidity dome, 1020 flat and heat mat that is set at her optimum germination temperature (68° F) with the seedling mat thermostat.
We top water with her special vitamins and before long she has peeked out to say hello to the world.
After she has some good roots coming out of the bottom of the cube, we transplant her out into our NFT lettuce production area.
